Easy to Use

Access emails, get online, and exchange phone calls and texts with your contacts by connecting your smart device to the Internet through specific iOS or Android applications, fully independent of cellular or fixed networks. Unlike many other 'smartphone to satphone' devices on the market today, the IsatHub service was designed to run over the Inmarsat BGAN network and hence has high-speed data capabilities.

Inmarsat BGAN Service Information

The Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) is a global satellite network with telephony using portable terminals. The network is provided by Inmarsat and uses three geostationary satellites called I-4 to provide almost global coverage.

High-Usage, Low-Cost, Consumer Grade BGAN Service Plans

Affordable BGAN Internet service options are finally here. Standard+ is availalble to all BGAN Terminals. Standard+ plans are very similar to other BGAN plans except speeds are slowed only when network congestion is present. You may never even experience the slowed speeds as the use of BGAN Terminals have been declining as other options have came availalbe. The BGAN Standard+ Speeds are identical to commercial grade High-Priority BGAN service. Standard+ service has the same routing priority level as IsatHub service and is availalble for iSavi terminals a well.

High Priority Routing Service Plans

Downlink speeds of high-end BGAN terminals are up to 492 kbit/s and upload speeds are also up to 492 kbit/s - Best Effort as BGAN Background IP (BIP) is a contended (shared) channel. As with all geosynchronous satellite connections, latency is an issue. Common latency is 1–1.5 seconds round trip for the Background IP service. It is slightly better for the Streaming services at 800 ms – 1 second. This latency is mainly due to the great distance that has to be traveled before a packet can reach the Internet, but is slightly exacerbated by the back-end technology as normal latency over a Very small aperture terminal (VSAT) system is roughly 550 ms.

• Streaming services connect to the Internet similar to standard BGAN services
• Streaming services are charged by the minute, not like standard BGAN services which charged Per Megabyte transferred
• A Minimum $1,500 USD Deposit is Required to Enable Streaming Services Per SIM Card
• All BGAN services are available and deduct from Bundle funds at the listed rates
• There is no maximum amount on streaming time that can be purchased, additional funds may be added at anytime
• A suspension alert will be issued to email address(es) when 75% of deposit has been spent
• Streaming accounts have a validity period of 1 year from activation

Works as expected. Set-up is easy for tech-savy and doable for the less-experienced. Quick start guide tells you all you need. We use ours out a south-facing open window with no problem. The product is designed for easy pointing, especially with the free smart phone app. Be aware that this locks on to a geostationary satellite, which means the receiver itself cannot be moved around without losing the signal. The literature makes this clear, but perhaps bears repeating. The ability to link to several smart phones, tablets, or computers at once is especially valuable. Bandwidth is adequate for internet communication. Again, the literature makes this clear but bears repeating. Once fixed on a signal, the unit operates pretty much like any other wifi hotspot. You can change the passwords, connect devices, and move them around. Battery life is reasonable. Good job.

Going to Indonesia on business and I always check out the sites which takes me off the grid a lot. I picked up one of these so I could still use my smartphone. I didn't realize how this needed to be used, I tried it out at the bottom of a cliff with an overhang since I camped there and it was comfortable but was surprised when I could not get an attention. I knew I couldn't use this inside a building but didn't know about tall things in nature. Not a deal breaker, just more difficult to connect than I previously thought.
