The NAL Iridium SHOUT NS Personnel Tracker is a variation of the SHOUT ts that does not have a screen. It's a body-worn tracker/messaging device that weighs less than 3 oz and has a volume that's 60% smaller than the SHOUT ts. The Iridium and GPS antennas are both integrated within the casing. The operating parameters of the SHOUT ns are set using a computer via a USB port. For two-way messaging and parameter settings, the SHOUT ns can also be connected to a smartphone through Bluetooth. The SHOUT ns can send a position report every hour for up to 20 days thanks to an integrated 650 mA-Hr rechargeable battery (about 480 reports).
A CR123 non-rechargeable battery can also be used with the SHOUT ns. Free-text, canned messages, and a combination of free-text and canned messages can all be sent via a smart phone using the ns. The device can wake up from sleep on a regular basis to relay its position report to a command center. For immediate emergency/alert notifications, a dual button 911 feature is used. The data is stored in a standard or 256-bit AES encrypted format. To include Brevity codes, data can alternatively be provided in encrypted PECOS forms.
