Understanding the Differences Between A3LA Modem Models
The A3LA Series by NAL Research is designed to offer scalable Iridium® connectivity across various applications—from asset tracking to command-and-control voice support in military-grade deployments. Below is an in-depth explanation of each model's unique capabilities to help you select the most appropriate version for your mission-critical requirements.
A3LA-RS
The A3LA-RS is a streamlined satellite modem built around the Iridium® 9523 transceiver. It supports Short Burst Data (SBD), SMS, circuit-switched data (Data Switch), and RUDICS connectivity. Ideal for data-only applications such as remote monitoring, telemetry, or control systems. Note: The A3LA-RS does not support voice communication.
A3LA-R
The A3LA-R includes extended input voltage capability. It supports all Iridium data functions and can enable voice calling with a connected DPL handset, functioning similarly to an Iridium 9555 or 9575 handset.
A3LA-R-SMA
Functionally the same as the A3LA-R, this version adds an SMA connector for custom or ruggedized antenna configurations. It’s ideal for integrators or specialized embedded use cases.
A3LA-R-MIL
This MIL-spec version of the A3LA-R includes all its capabilities and adds MIL-STD-810G ruggedization, making it suitable for military vehicles, field units, and harsh weather deployments.
A3LA-RM
The A3LA-RM supports SBD, SMS, and data modes and includes AES-256 encryption for secure data transmission over the Iridium network. Designed for government and high-security applications.
A3LA-RM-SMA
This model builds on the A3LA-RM with an SMA connector for enhanced antenna routing or form factor integration—ideal for secure embedded systems.
A3LA-RM-MIL
The most secure and rugged model available, combining encryption with MIL-STD-810G durability. It is preferred for classified military communications and mission-critical deployments.
A3LA-RG
The A3LA-RG includes a built-in GPS receiver for location tracking. It supports the same Iridium data connectivity as the R model and is excellent for situational awareness and asset tracking.
A3LA-RG-MIL
This model enhances the A3LA-RG with military-grade ruggedization, offering both GPS tracking and durability for vehicles, remote teams, or expedition use.
